Questions & answers

The questions homeowners actually ask.

The questions homeowners around Ascot actually ask us, roughly in the order they ask them — from “is this even a job for you?” through planning and quoting to what happens when we are in the house.

Stage

Before you decide

What kind of work do you take on?

Eleven things, and they overlap more than the list suggests: kitchen installations, bathroom renovations, extensions, loft conversions, garage conversions, internal and external painting and decorating, plastering and drywall, carpentry and joinery, plumbing and heating, electrical work, and commercial property refurbishment including HMOs and office conversions. Most jobs use several of them at once, which is exactly why we keep them under one roof.

Who will actually be running my project?

Joey — Joseph Lazzari, the sole director of Williams Interiors Ltd. He does the site visit, prices the work, sets the sequence and stays your point of contact through to handover. It is a small, family-run firm, and that is deliberate: you are not handed to a project manager you have never met.

How long have you been going?

Williams Interiors Ltd was incorporated on 25 February 2019 and is registered at Companies House under number 11844280. Separately from the company, Joey's own background in the trade goes back more than 25 years — we keep those two things distinct rather than blurring them into one number, because they are not the same claim.

Are you insured, and what about gas and electrical work?

Yes, we carry insurance for the work we do and will show you the cover before we start. Gas, heating and electrical work is carried out by appropriately registered engineers, and any certification that a job requires is issued and passed to you with the rest of your handover paperwork.

Planning and permissions

Does my extension need planning permission?

It depends on the size, height, position and what has already been added to the house — plenty of single-storey rear extensions fall under permitted development, plenty do not, and a conservation area or an earlier extension changes the answer. We will give you a view at the first visit and help you make the application if one is needed. There is more detail in our extension and loft planning guide.

What is building control, and who deals with it?

Planning is about whether you may build it; building control is about whether it is built properly — foundations, structure, insulation, fire safety, drainage. Almost all of our extension, loft and garage work needs building control regardless of planning. We handle the inspections and the sequencing around them so nothing waits on an unbooked visit.

What about my neighbour's wall?

If you are building on or against a shared boundary, cutting into a party wall or digging near your neighbour's foundations, the Party Wall etc. Act is likely to apply and notice has to be served in advance. We will flag it early, because it has a notice period attached and it is one of the commonest reasons an otherwise ready job cannot start.

Quotes and money

How do we get started?

Call the office on 0800 043 6811 or email welcome@williamsinteriors.co.uk and we will arrange a visit. We come out, look at the property properly, talk through what you are picturing and what it realistically involves, and then put the scope and the price in writing.

What if things change once you have started?

On renovation work they sometimes do — a floor comes up and the joists are not what anyone expected. When that happens we stop, explain what it means for the work, the programme and the cost, and agree the change with you before carrying on. What we will not do is present it as a surprise at the end.

Do you publish prices?

No, and we would be suspicious of anyone who did for this kind of work. A bathroom in a 1930s house with a soil pipe on the wrong wall is not the same job as the identical-looking bathroom next door. You get a written, itemised quote after a survey, free of charge.

Stage

While we are in the house

Can we stay in the house while you work?

Usually yes, and most of our customers do. We seal off work areas, protect routes through the house and clear up at the end of each day. For a kitchen or a single bathroom we will also talk through the period when you will be without it, so you can plan around it rather than discover it.

What are your hours?

Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm, and Saturday mornings 8.30am to 1pm. We are closed on Sundays. If you ring out of hours, leave a message and Joey will call you back.

Where do you work?

We are based in Ascot and work across Sunningdale, Windsor, Bracknell and the surrounding areas of Berkshire, Surrey and Buckinghamshire. If you are near that patch and not sure, just ask — we would rather tell you honestly than travel too far to look after the job properly afterwards.

Still have a question?

Ask Joey directly — there's no charge for a chat, a visit or a quote.
